PORT ELIZABETH – Isuzu Motors South Africa (Isuzu) has refreshed its bakkie range, giving it a new name along with higher levels of specification, quality and efficiency to make its popular light commercial vehicle (LCV) more appealing than ever.

Over the past 40 years of local production spanning six generations, the Isuzu bakkie has been a key player in creating and fostering South Africa’s love affair with the versatile bakkie – both as a workhorse and, increasingly, as an all-encompassing everyday leisure and lifestyle vehicle.

Isuzu Technicians Take Podium Position at International Competition

It’s official, South Africa has some of the best bakkie technicians in the world. The Isuzu South Africa team came third out of 24 participating countries in the Light Commercial Vehicle Division of the 2018 Isuzu World Technical Competition, known as the I-1 Grand Prix, which was held in Thailand recently.

This year marked the 13th edition of the competition. Representing South African were Izak Stefanus (Stefan) de Wet, from Technical Support and Field Services at Isuzu Motors South Africa, Petrus Venter from Williams Hunt Roodepoort in Gauteng and Johannes van Heerden from Westvaal Mashishing in Mpumalanga. The technicians were given several mechanical tasks to test technical competency and problem-solving skills on Isuzu bakkies. Technicians from the host country, Thailand, came first in the competition while Russia came second.

Globe-trotting Isuzu bakkie to be given new lease on life as winner of Living Legends competition

Isuzu’s revered and trusted locally produced one-ton bakkie range has been a firm South African favourite over the past 40 years, delivering legendary performance, unbeatable reliability and impressive go-anywhere ability.

And now, an adventurous 18-year-old model, nearly two decades of travelling the length and breadth of Sub-Saharan Africa and as far as Eastern Europe is set to be rewarded with a comprehensive make-over. The 2000 Isuzu 280 D-TEQ 4×4 will be undergoing restoration which will be conducted by the highly experienced Technical Services team at Isuzu Motors South Africa in Port Elizabeth.

The restoration forms part of Isuzu’s celebrations for its 40th anniversary of Isuzu bakkie Production in South Africa and is the culmination of the Living Legends competition which attracted over 150 entries from eager and loyal Isuzu bakkie owners around the country.

Isuzu launches exclusive X-Rider Black edition

 

Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSA) is adding a further dash of exclusivity and appeal to its bakkie range with the introduction of the X-Rider Black – a limited edition all-black model available as part of its popular Double Cab line-up.

“The X-Rider has been a fantastic addition to the existing Isuzu line-up in South Africa, creating a niche of its own with its distinctive styling elements and upmarket features that set it apart from the rest of the range,” says Dominic Rimmer, Executive Technical Services.

The X-Rider has been exceptionally well received by South African customers, initially introduced in 2016 as a 700-unit limited edition, however demand for the X-Rider led to it being added as a permanent fixture of the Isuzu bakkie range early last year.
